The curses of corruption and misrule have become synonymous to democracy for the present rulers as they shamelessly blame the judiciary, media, military and the political parties of conspiring against the democratic system whenever any of them raises their voice against loot and plunder of national wealth or scandals like memogate.
The recent unearthing of the Rs7 billion drug scandal involving Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani’s son Ali Musa Gilani and its investigation by the military-led Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) is being whispered by the government spin doctors as yet another conspiracy of the Pakistan Army against the democratic government.

The report appeared in Pakistan Observer

IN keeping with the global trend, the State minions in the Land of the Pure also observe special days every year, but with a difference. Elsewhere, they celebrate special days with due diligence and commitment, but in the Land of the Pure they do so merely as a ritual and that too in a mechanical way. In addition to dinners, walks, workshops, musical galas, etcetera for the occasion, organizations with money in their kitty sponsor newspaper supplements. But, it is another thing that the contents of the supplements have little to offer to the public. Instead of using the space for creating awareness amongst the public about the significance of the event, these are often loaded with photographs and routine messages of the president, prime minister, minister in-charge of the ministry dealing with the subject and top bureaucrats of the sponsoring ministry or organization.

Following extensive round of covert talks, Taliban and the US administration have finally agreed to swap prisoners, sources told TheNation on Sunday, adding that announcement of the agreement was not possible at this point.

Sources said govt of Qatar had played vital role in bringing Taliban and the USA on the table for negotiations which started in September last year, and finally striking a deal to swap the prisoner

Sources further said the deal was finalized until the government of Qatar assured the Americans of keeping a strict eye on those Taliban figures and providing them extensive security.

The report appeared in The News

Sindh in general and Karachi, the bleeding and burning city of lights in particular, are the worst victims of a highly politicized police department that is simply ruined by the high number of out of turn promotions, controversial inductions and unmerited appointments on political considerations and external influences.
Merit has never been the priority of successive governments in the province thus resulting in the complete dominance of those inducted through political means and those given out of turn promotions. Instead of serving the people the police is serving the interest of its political masters.

The report appeared in The Nation

Presidential reference for retrial of ‘judicial murder’ of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto has become a headache for the top PPP leadership ostensibly because of a rift over who should represent the Federation if former law minister Babar Awan is removed as counsel.

Sources said that budding chairman of the ruling PPP, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, was annoyed at the pace of proceedings of the case for lack of a legal counsel representing the Federation.

Sources said that the rift in party has virtually annoyed not only President Zardari but also his son and the budding chairman of the ruling party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who wanted to cash in on the outcome of the judicial proceedings on the forthcoming death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on April 4.

While the Gilani government is banking on Punjabi bureaucrats and greatly ignores officers from the smaller provinces against key appointments, the Shahbaz Sharif government deserves full marks for benefiting from the talent of officers from Balochistan and Sindh.
Although, the total number of officers posted in the Punjab is high, there are many key positions in the provincial administration that are presently held by officers from the other provinces.
